Cassie is our "once in ten year" Whippet.
We knew we had a winner at her first show. We
entered Cassie and her champion Aunt Teltrishka First
Moment at an open show when Cassie was only four months and four days
only. Peter handled Tammi and Pat handled Cassie.
I thought the judge, Mr Randolf de Taranto, was making
jokes when he asked us to move the girls for about the fifth time and was
taking a long time to make his decision. I was sure that Cassie was good
but surely not good enough at that age to beat her champion aunt 2 years her senior.
Well, I was wrong, and a brilliant career in showing was launched. I
congratulated the judge on having the 'balls' to put up a Baby Pup over a
champion. Randolf quietly said "This girl is going to go a very long
way". Randolf was right. Since then many judges have put
their stamp of approval on Cassies record. She has been placed in Mini
Grand groups, and 5 Best Puppy in Shows, a Reserve, Best Junior
in Show, Top 8 finalist at the
Junior Dog of the Year competition, and the highlight of her puppy career,
Winning the KUSA National Puppy of the Year and also winning KUSA National
Whippet title , against champions when she was still a junior !!!
KUSA Nationals 2005
I am very proud of Cassies effort at the Nationals. We
deliberately did not enter the Championship Show as I knew that would make
for a long long day. I do feel sorry for some of the exhibits that had
been there all day. Still, not entering the ring for the final until gone
22:00 made for some very tired dogs and people, unfortunately Cassie was
no exception. After a sterling performance to date, she crabbed
slightly on her way out from the judge in the final. That being enough to
tip the nod another way. Congratulations to Eileen with her
beautiful Beardie The Great Gatsby and to the reserve Pointer.
KUSA Nationals 2006
2006 Cassie was again anointed National Whippet but did
not go any further in the group placings.
The judge Mrs D. Cole seemed to like the large breed dogs
with the group being Ridgeback Afghan Saluki and the Beagle.
KUSA Nationals 2007
2007 Cassie was back on the absolute top of her form. A
long break from showing (9 months) seems to have brought back her real
love of the crowds. In the breed it was unfortunate that various
other exhibitors, who were present at the show, were marked absent when
called to compete
for the Whippet title. In the end, Cassies younger Brother was the Reserve
National
Whippet.
The final four in the group competed under the big tent
where it was down to Cassie and the Afghan CH. Agha Djari's Question of
Honour Of Accolades (Ria Wessels). Cassie loves indoor
shows and under lights she shone. To top it off Pats handling on this evening was
of her normal
exceptionally high standard.
For the Final Cassie was pipped at the post by the
fantastic Standard Poodle KUSA Nat. Dog '07 Ch. Marechal Positive
Accent, an admirable dog to come second to.
After judging, all the group judges asked to see Cassie
and her group judge was exceptionally proud of her performance in the
final.
Teltrishka kept the National Whippet Title
Five
years running.
Cassie in 2003 , 2005, 2006 and 2007
CH Teltrishka First Edition at Avrondel in 2004 Chase was also Reserve National Hound
04
KUSA Nationals 2008
Cassie has other ideas than travelling to Cape Town in
the Winter. She was at home nursing her first litter.
We congratulate John and Margaret Berry, Brenda and Amy
Degenhardt on their 2008 Title.
Retirement
Cassie has taken to retirement quite well
although she still gives us the cold sholder when we come home
from a show because we havent taken her.
